Ludhiana: A couple and their seven-year-old daughter died when the scooter they were riding rammed into a stationary truck at Daheru village, near Khanna, on Tuesday night. The deceased woman was also nine-month pregnant. Due to the intense collision, all three suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. The family was returning home after paying obeisance at Kali Temple, Patiala. The deceased have been identified as Sushil Kumar (32), his wife Pooja (30) and daughter Pari (7), residents of Basti Chowk, Islamganj, Ludhiana. A case was registered against the truck driver on Tuesday night. Rahul, brother of the deceased Sushil, said his brother and sister-in-law used to visit the temple in Patiala every month. On Tuesday evening they along with their daughter had went there and after paying obeisance they were returning home at night on their scooter. When they reached near Daheru village, a truck (PB12Y3651), loaded with iron rods, was standing on the road. The truck’s indicators were not working, due to which Sushil could not notice the stationary truck and his scooter rammed into it. Investigation officer Sukhwinder Pal Singh of the Sadar police station, Khanna, said the errant truck driver was identified as Pardeep Kumar of Basti Peer Das, Jalandhar, and he is yet to be arrested.
