New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday, in its order directed the Centre to immediately deploy two additional company of Central Paramilitary Forces in Tripura to ensure smooth, free and fair functioning of the municipal election underway in the state.
The court directed Director General of Police (DGP) and Home Secretary of Tripura Government to ensure all polling booths were properly manned by security forces, especially in the aftermath of the violence that erupted in the Northeast state just days back.
The apex court passed the order, after taking into account the records of CCTV cameras that have not been installed at all polling booths.
The court also in its order directed that print and electronic media shall be given unhindered access to the election booths to report on the situations prevailing there.
A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justice Vikram Nath passed the order that also directed polling officers concerned to take help of the CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) personnel if in case of any emergency or any kind of unforeseen situation or event happens.
