MANGALURU: The city police have arrested four people in connection with the brutal gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl at a tile factory in Mangaluru rural police station limits.
The arrested have been identified as Jayban aka Jaisingh (21), Mukesh Singh (20), Muneem Singh (20) from Madhya Pradesh and Manish Tikri (33) from Jharkhand.
The city police commissioner said on Wednesday that the incident took place on November 21, when the victim was playing with her brother and sisters in the tile factory compound. The accused took the girl to their room and allegedly sexually assaulted the girl in turns. When she started screaming in pain and was bleeding, they strangled her and left her in a drain.
The girl was reportedly missing since noon. However, the parents of the victim who are migrant labourers initially told the police that they realised that their daughter was missing at around 4pm on Sunday and started searching for her. At around 6pm, she was found in a drain.
Her mortal remains were shifted to the government Wenlock Hospital. The police has questioned more than 20 people so far, mainly the staff of the tile factory.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
