Jon Batiste leads the Grammy nominations with a staggering total of ELEVEN nods including Album and Record of the Year

He is currently leading next year's Grammy Awards with a staggering 11 nominations to his name.

But until today, many music fans around the world may not have been so familiar with the work of singer-songwriter Jon Batiste.

The 35-year-old musician has dominated the nominations for the upcoming ceremony, which is set to take place on January 31st after the full list announcement on Tuesday.

Batiste's nominations include Record of the Year for his single FREEDOM and Album of the Year for his album WE ARE.

He will be competing against Olivia Rodrigo's Sour and Kayne West's album Donda for the latter of the two awards.

WE ARE is currently nominated in the category of Best R&B Album, where performers such as H.E.R and Leon Bridges have been put up for the same distinction.

The album's hit single, Freedom, will also go head-to-head against the likes of Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish and I Get a Kick out of You by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett for the Record of the Year award.

Batiste's received his first Grammy nomination in 2019, when he was put up for the Best American Roots Performance award for his work on a recording of the classic song St. James Infirmary Blues.

The performer ultimately lost to Brandi Carlile, who received the distinction for her track The Joke.

Last year, the songwriter was nominated for the awards for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album and Best New Age Album, the latter of which he shared with Cory Wong.

The performer ultimately lost both to Snarky Puppy and Jim West, respectively.

Batiste has been nominated for the awards for both Album and Record of the Year, as well as Best Traditional R&B Performance, Improvised Jazz Solo, Jazz Instrumental Album, American Roots Performance and Song, Score Soundtrack For Visual Media, Contemporary Classical Composition and Music Video. 

Other stars nominated for their efforts between 2020 and 2021 include Justin Bieber and Doja Cat, who have both received eight nods.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z has made history by becoming the Most-Nominated Artist in the history of the Grammys.

The 51-year-old superstar, who has been releasing albums since 1995 and is married to fellow superstar Beyonce, has been nominated for three Grammy Awards this year, taking his all-time total to 83, taking over from Quincy Jones.
