Nadia Bartel furiously responds to critic who urges her to change her surname back to Coppolino - two years after her split from ex-AFL star Jimmy

Nadia Bartel has lashed out at an online critic, who urged her to change her surname back to Coppolino two years after her split from ex-AFL star Jimmy Bartel.

The 36-year-old - who shares Aston, five, and Henley, two, with her former partner - responded to the follower on Instagram last week, who had commented on a photograph of her and her young children in car.

The critic's out-of-the-blue post read: 'Nadia, can you change your SURNAME back, so you are no longer riding on the coattails of Jimmy's successful career.'

While Nadia has kept a low profile following her infamous white powder scandal in September, she couldn't resist responding to the message in the comments section.

'I want the same last name as my children, can I ask why you have such a problem with it?' she sternly asked. 'You don’t know me.'

Another woman in a similar position to Nadia responded: 'Totally understand. I unfortunately didn't have the same surname as my daughter, and it was annoying and unpractical on so many levels.'

In response, Nadia continued: 'I feel you, and nothing against different surnames.

'Each to their own, and who knows what will happen for me in the future, but right now when they are so young it’s hard to have a different surname to them.'

Nadia has continued to use the former Geelong player's surname since the AFL couple split in August 2019.

Her defensive post comes after she recently broke her silence following her white-powder scandal, which made headlines back in September.

She said in an Instagram post on November 2 that shifting her 'mindset' had helped her heal in the wake of the controversy that threatened to destroy her career.

The mother of two posted a screenshot from a podcast she was listening to called The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett.

The episode in question featured as its guest Mo Gawdat, the author of Solve Me Happy, a book about 'creating and maintaining happiness'.

'I really enjoyed this episode,' the Henne fashion designer wrote in the caption.

'It's a good one to shift mindset. All about perspective and finding happiness.'

It was the first time Nadia had offered a glimpse into her mental state since apologising for her snorting scandal on September 3.

Her entire world fell apart when she was caught breaking Melbourne's Covid lockdown to attend an illegal party with several friends.

Damning footage from the gathering, which her friend and business partner Ellie Pearson posted online by mistake, showed her snorting a line of white powder off a $1.50 Kmart plate.

Just 24 hours after the video leaked, Nadia issued a grovelling apology on Instagram.

While she wasn't charged with drug offences because police couldn't prove what she was snorting, the video nonetheless caused irreparable damage to her brand and she was dropped by major sponsors.

Apology: Just 24 hours after the video leaked, Nadia issued a grovelling apology on Instagram. 'I have let you all down by my actions. I take full responsibility and I am committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure I make better choices in future,' she wrote in an Instagram post
