CM fumes over delay in project execution
GTV launched in Jiribam; western gate, suspension bridge inaugurated

Imphal/Jiribam, November 23 2021: Apart from launching the Go to Village 2.0 for Jiribam district, which will continue for two days, at the Jiri College campus; chief minister N Biren on Tuesday inaugurated Nongshaba Sanathong (Western Gate of Manipur) in Jiribam and a suspension bridge in Pherzawl district.
Around 50 stalls of 26 different government departments and banks were opened for the convenience of the public during the Go to Village 2.0 programme.
The suspension bridge constructed at an estimated cost Rs 706 lakh over Barak River at Tipaimukh to connect Taithu and Paiphunmuan (Pherzawl district) was inaugurated through video conferencing.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren expressed resentment over the delay in the blacktopping of Jiri College Road even though the work order of Rs 50 lakh was issued to the work agency concerned last year.
The CM cautioned all concerned that they would face action if construction works are not completed within 20 days.
He also expressed extreme anger over not issuing work order for the construction of Jiri-Tipaimukh Road, which was sanctioned by the Centre long back at an estimated cost of Rs 114 crore.
Informing that the foundation stone for Nongshaba Sanathong was laid a long time back, the CM expressed dissatisfaction as tangible steps have been taken up for its construction by successive governments for a long period of time.
He also expressed dissatisfaction for taking four years to complete the gate while stressing the need for government officials including engineers and contractors to be sincere in executing projects.
If such delays continue, the district would never see progress, he observed.
However, Jiribam has started witnessing fast development after BJP came to power in the state, he said and added that key development works like Ima Market, Helipad, Sadbhavna Mandap, Residential Model School, transit accommodation had been completed in record time.
Mentioning the importance of a modern check post building at the entry point to the state on NH-37, the CM asked the DC Jiribam to submit DPR within seven days, assuring that the check post would be constructed at the earliest with any available funds.
The CM further announced that a new Ima Market of the district would be constructed in addition to the existing one.
He also said that the District Transport Office was supposed to be inaugurated on Tuesday but there was some technical issues and he would inaugurate the same virtually within a few days.
Biren also said that he would look into possibilities of constructing a work-shed of Agarwood products as proposed by the people of Jiribam.
Stating that the present government never ignores Jiribam in bringing development, he asked the people of the district not to feel neglected due to its geographical distance from the state's capital.
He assured to do whatever possible to have all the necessary infrastructures and government offices of a full-fledged district including DRDA.
Regarding the Go to Village programme, the CM said that it is a sincere effort of the government to bring people closer to the government.
With the launch of the mission, government benefits are delivered to the public at their doorsteps now.
The CM also mentioned the benefits provided under different schemes introduced by the government like CMHT, CMST, School Fag-athansi among others.
He then expressed hope that people would be able to maintain savings as these schemes would save them from spending huge amount of money on medical treatment and children's education.
Moreover, Meira Paibi members of the state are now able to sleep at home at night unlike the past when they spent cold and chilly nights in their respective Meira sheds.
A good or bad government depends on the public as they are the ones who elect their representatives to form the government, the chief minister said and urged the public to support BJP for a BJP only government to get real taste of development.
He also said that BJP sees all religions and communities equally, and appealed to the public not to believe in rumours.
Education minister S Rajen, tribal affairs and hills minister Vungzagin Valte, agriculture minister O Lukhoi, deputy speaker K Robindro, titular king and Rajya MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Jiribam MLA Md Ashab Uddin, Jiribam ZP adhyaksha Kh Janaki, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar and Manipur Food Industries Corporation Ltd vice-chairman K Saratkumar were also present on the occasion as dignitaries.
During the function, the CM also distributed wheelchairs under the District Social Welfare Office; Ima Credit Cards under Manipur State Co-operative Bank Ltd; smartphones under Chief Minister's e-Support Scheme for students; and CMHT cards to select beneficiaries.
