4 held in gang-rape and murder of Karnataka girl
Four persons have been arrested in the gang-rape and murder case of an eight-year-old girl in Dakshina Kannada district, police said on Thursday.The arrested were identified as Jayban a.k.a Jay Singh (21), Mukhesh Singh (20), Manish Tirki (33) and Muneem Singh (20). Jay Singh and Mukhesh are from Madhya Pradesh and Muneem is from Jharkhand.The gruesome incident took place on Sunday. The minor girl went missing from the premises of a tile factory where her parents worked. After frantic search her body was recovered from a drain attached to the factory.
Three boys, youth held for killing painter in east Bengaluru
Two youths and three minors allegedly bludgeoned a 26-year-old painter to death with stones for beating and abusing them. The gang dumped the body of Sunil, a resident of KG Halli, east Bengaluru, on the night of November 10, on the railway track between Hebbal and Banaswadi to make it look like a case of unnatural death. Karnataka: 98% attendance in primary class drops to 75% in higher secondary
While both girls and boys have 98% attendance in primary classes in the 6-11 years age group in Karnataka, it gradually drops as they go to higher classes. The attendance fell to 75% among girls and 76% among boys in higher secondary between 15 and 17 years, according to National Family Health Survey report, 2019-20. Full report here

The government has decided to stop issuing smartcards for DLs and vehicle registration certificates (RCs). While the transport department has been issuing RCs in digital format since November 1, it has now sought the Centre’s permission to allow issuance of DLs via the same mode.
Soon, motorists in Karnataka may not need to visit RTOs to get smartcardbased driving licence (DL) or wait for it to arrive by post.
