A Tucson high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after reports of a student on campus with a weapon.

Students at Mountain View High School were asked to shelter in place around 1:30 p.m. because of an incident reported to school administrators, according to an emergency alert the school issued. Officials with the school, which is part of the Marana Unified School District north of Tucson, did not elaborate on what the incident was.

Deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department were called to the school to investigate. The department confirmed on Facebook it responded to the school after reports of a weapon on campus.

The department did not say whether anyone was arrested or whether a weapon was found but said there was no active threat to the community. The lockdown was lifted and students were released at the end of the school day.

School and law enforcement officials said more details would be provided as information becomes available.
