CCpur, November 23 2021: Henglep assembly constituency continues to be the least developed one among the six assembly segments of Churachandpur district and the sub-divisional headquarters is yet to be connected with any black-topped road since 1974.Apart from this, government buildings and basic facilities in Henglep sub-divisional headquarters like Primary Health Centre (PHC), SDO office complex and police station remained unoccupied till date.
All these developmental lacunae were witnessed when this correspondent made a whirlwind tour of the subdivision on Tuesday.
During the trip, it came to light that Henglep assembly constituency is yet to be connected with black-topped road till date since 1974.There are only two main roads linking Henglep sub-divisional headquarters.
The first one is PMGSY road and the second road is Singmun Lamkhai road (PMGSY) but both the roads cannot be used by people during rainy season thus making the region cut off from rest of the world during the monsoons every year.
Government infrastructures like Primary Health Centre (PHC), SDO office complex and Henglep police station remain unoccupied and there is no meaningful government institution in the subdivision till date.
Deeply concerned over pathetic condition in Henglep area when the world is witnessing fast-track development, social worker Letzmang, who is preparing to contest the 2022 election from the constituency, organised a public consultation at Henglep Youth Centre Hall under the theme 'Come, let us reason our future together' on Tuesday.
Almost all the 150 village chiefs under Henglep subdivision took part in the consultation meet and suggested measures to bring development in the constituency.
During the meet, Letzamang Haokip announced that he opted to contest the polls from the constituency as he sincerely wanted to work for the welfare of the people.
Since the year 1974 Henglep area has never been connected with a black topped road and government institutions failed to function for the welfare of the people.
Tendering apology to the public for any of his inadvertent omission and commission in the past, Letzamang Haokip appealed to people of the constituency to test him for at least once by electing him in the forthcoming election.
