'I'm honoured and I'm privileged,' Commissioner Webb told reporters.

'There was a fair amount of screaming around my house last night.'

Commissioner Fuller announced he would be resigning from the role in July of this year, noting the job required 'enormous energy'.

Minister for Police David Elliott said he had never seen a 'man sadder to leave the force as Mick Fuller' and paid tribute to his five-year tenure with the police.

The minister said the organisation would continue on the strengths of Mick Fuller and said the challenges of the future would remain unknown.

Commissioner Webb scored the role in her 34th year with police after joining in 1987 and beginning her career at Castle Hill Police Station.

From Castle Hill, she rose through the ranks at the then-Child Mistreatment Unit, the Drug Enforcement Agency, as well as Lismore and Western Sydney commands.

Commissioner Webb was promoted to Assistant Commissioner and Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander in July before earning the role as NSW's top cop.

She has also worked as the Deputy State Emergency Operations Controller and as a director of the police charity, NSW Police Legacy.

The top cop has also managed several large-scale operations including the NSW bushfires and the Covid-19 pandemic response.
