Hyderabad: AB InBev has accepted renewable electricity at its Charminar brewery in Sangareddy, Telangana, as part of its commitment to secure 100 percent of the company’s purchased electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
Earlier this year, the company’s Crown brewery in the Medak district of Telangana partially switched to renewable electricity, following its breweries in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
With a project capacity of DC 990 KWP, the solar panel installation at the Charminar brewery will generate approximately 4,000 units of energy per day (annual average per day). With an electricity demand of 38,000 units per day, AB will start supplementing InBev’s initiative to supply 10 percent of the electricity demand at the facility.
Ashwin Kak, Head of Procurement and Sustainability, India and Southeast Asia, AB InBev said during the event, the adoption of solar-generated electricity at the company’s fourth brewery strengthens its global commitment in 2025.
“We look forward to extending this initiative across more breweries across the country to support India’s ambitious UN SDG goals,” he added.
With its four current breweries, AB InBev India’s breweries will obtain about 13 percent to 15 percent of electricity from renewable sources, which will be progressively improved to 100 percent by 2025.
