New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Wednesday asserted that safety of women and children in the national capital is his top most priority and various initiatives are being taken in this regard.
"Our top most priority is the safety of women and children. We are taking all initiatives to ensure their safety," said Asthana, while interacting with the scribes at Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC).
He said if any woman and children are in distress, police immediately pay attention to their problems and added that all the police control room (PCR) patrolling vans have been merged with police stations for swift action.
The Delhi Police chief also informed that 413 rape cases have been registered so far this year and said in maximum cases the accused were known persons.
He further said the strength of each police station has been increased, including in-charge of investigation and another for law and order.
On cyber crime, Asthana said, "Delhi Police has been in the forefront to deal expeditiously with cyber crime. We are opening cyber crime police stations in each district. Nearly 7,000 policemen have been trained to deal with it."
Asked about farmers' agitation, he said, "Some cases were registered on the Republic Day incident (2021). We have investigated and charge sheeted. We are committed to maintaining law and order."
