The prices of petrol and diesel remained unchanged on November 23 in major cities across the country. Earlier Central government had reduced excise duty at the beginning of the month.
However, the Chhattisgarh government on November 22, announced a 1% reduction in VAT, after that the rates of petrol and diesel have dropped by Rs 0.90 and Rs 1.45, respectively.
In many cities, petrol and diesel prices had reached a new high after crossing Rs 100 mark, however, after the reduction in VAT and excise duty the prices of petrol and diesel have dropped in many cities across the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and, Chennai.

Petrol prices in the national capital were dropped to Rs 103.97 on November 23 after the centre’s reduction on the tax. While in Mumbai petrol is still at Rs 109.98, the highest among the metro cities. The Delhi government had announced that there will not be any VAT reduction. The prices of petrol are Rs 101.40 in Chennai, while a litre of diesel would cost Rs 91.43.
