I D Shukla, a 1995 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, took charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Goa on Tuesday.

Listing out his priorities, Shukla said that his focus will be on safety of tourists, to make Goa drugs-free and most importantly ensure safety of women. He further said that tackling traffic issues as well as making policemen tech-savvy will also be on his priority list.

Shukla, who understands as well as speaks Konkani language, has urged the public to provide any complaints/suggestions and assured time-bound disposal of the matter.

“Police is a service delivery force and we must deliver in a time bound manner. My doors are always open to anybody…they can meet me. Even the public can send messages/complaints and I assure a time bound disposal”, said Shukla while interacting with the media after taking the charge at the police headquarters in the city.

“Tourists safety, action against narcotics activities, smooth traffic will be ensured on the road,”
said Shukla.

Shukla also said that he is aware of parking problems at various locations. He further said that they will promote green corridors as the environment should also be protected and traffic should
be smooth.

“Nowadays without technology support, no police can advance. My priority will be to make our policemen fully equipped with technology,” said Shukla. He further said, “I will support all actions which are promoting good governance that may be smartness in policing, smartness in technology, smartness in the behavior of the policemen. I don’t want policemen to misbehave with any citizen and tourists. I want my policemen to be helpful to citizens as well as tourists, so that they can carry a very good name and fame all over the world. I want to make Goa a tourist friendly destination without any kind of illegal activity and I will see that my force promotes these ideas”.

Shukla was previously posted in Goa as DySP, later as SP and has worked in different capacities in the Goa police department for over 14 years.

On tackling drug menace, Shukla said, “It’s our priority and will tackle with all our means. Our priority will be to make Goa drugs free. We will take strict measures such as the PIT NDPS act, NSA and other provisions under the law against habitual offenders.

On women safety issue, Shukla said that the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had announced pink force and that the police department will soon establish the force.

“Such a kind of force will be one of the best responsive forces. I will ensure that they should be fully equipped, fully trained, smart and compatible with the crime situation,” he said.
