PALAKKAD: Police on Monday arrested a local office-bearer of Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with the murder of RSS worker Sanjith, 27, at Kinassery in Palakkad. District superintendent of police R Viswanath said "the arrested PFI local leader was directly involved in the crime." Two more youths are in police custody.
On Sunday, police had taken three youths, one hailing from Mundakayam in Kottayam and two from Nemmara in Palakkad, into custody in connection with the case. The police first took Subair of Mundakkayam into custody and after interrogating him they detained Salim and Isahaq, who were staying in his room at Mundakkayam.
The arrest of one among them, whose name was not revealed by police, was recorded after they were interrogated for hours. Police have also called some more suspected persons in the case for interrogation and hinted at the possibility of more arrests in the coming days.
The youths were working in a bakery at Mundakkayam. Two of them are learned to have left Nemmara after November 15, when the Sanjith's brutal murder took place in broad daylight in front of his wife.
Meanwhile, BJP state president K Surendran met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi seeking a probe by the National Investigation Agency into the killing. In a letter to Shah, the BJP leader alleged that 10 RSS-BJP activists were killed in Kerala by alleged 'jihadi' groups in the last five years. He alleged that so far about 50 Sangh Parivar activists were killed by them in the state.
