Gurgaon: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has 1,846 outsourced employees, excluding sanitation workers, according to the committee constituted to rationalise staff strength. In its report, the committee also said the civic body has a total of 6,418 sanitation workers. The rationalisation exercise, which is likely to be carried out soon, won’t affect sanitation workers, said MCG officials.
MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja had constituted a committee in September earlier this year to rationalise staff, saying the corporation’s staff strength isn’t in consonance with sanctioned posts.
“The committee recently submitted its report and rationalisation will soon be done so that surplus manpower is removed. There are 1,846 outsourced workers other than sanitation workers, and we are looking to rationalise this number. While conducting this exercise, we will ensure that only staffers that are required are retained,” Ahuja told TOI.
“It has been observed that staff strength working in MCG is not in consonance with the sanctioned posts. Obviously, the staff deputed is working under outsourcing policy. Rationalisation of staff working in the MCG office is the need of the hour and that has to be done in accordance with sanctioned strength and services required,” the order issued by the commissioner in September had stated. A three-member committee comprising additional municipal commissioner Rohtash Bishnoi, chief accounts officer Vijay Singla and administrative officer Sunil Kumar was then formed.
Rationalisation of MCG staff was also conducted in September 2020, when MCG had terminated the services of 557 contractual workers citing excess manpower as the reason. This led to a series of protests by workers seeking withdrawal of the termination orders. The employees terminated last year included supervisors, clerks, water pump operators besides other sanitation workers. The civic body was spending nearly Rs 1.4 crore every month on the salaries of these workers.
MCG has around 9,000 employees at present. The MCG commissioner said that the list of employees of each department will be scrutinised again and then the surplus staff will be terminated from services. The civic body had in September terminated the services of three consultants after reviewing their work.
