The Ahmedgarh circle police have claimed to have tightened noose around suspected drug peddlers and their sympathisers.

Organisation of special nakas, combing operation of sensitive localities to search hideouts of suspects and impounding of vehicles for verification and ascertaining antecedents of persons with criminal record; were cited among proactive measures being taken by the police to check distribution of drugs and narcotics during the forthcoming elections.

DSP Ahmedgarh Harvinder Singh Cheema said a coordinated movement against drug peddlers and their sympathisers was launched under the supervision of Malerkotla SSP Dr Ravjot Kaur Grewal on Sunday night. Special teams, led by SHO Sadar Randeep Singh and City SHO Winnerpreet Singh, had conducted raids and combing operation in localities inhabited by suspected drug peddlers.

“Having received instructions from SSP Dr Ravjot Kaur Grewal, we launched a special drive to tighten noose around suspected peddlers and courier agents and booked two persons with the help of a team of police personnel from the CIA wing, Malerkotla,” said Harvinder Singh Cheema, claiming that some vehicles and 500 habit-forming tablets were recovered from Ranjit Singh during the drive and one person identified as Yuvraj Singh escaped from the spot.
