Three drivers were injured after a truck crashed into two cars parked outside a school in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident happened outside Forest Hill Primary School on Dr Chota Motala Road.
A third car was also damaged at the back but the driver was unharmed.
After crashing into the cars, the truck went into the school yard. Some of the school teachers said they were grateful for the weather because pupils were all inside the classrooms when the accident happened.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was driving in reverse from the top of the road.
“It was driving at high speed, then we heard a loud sound. It then crashed into two cars that were parked on the side of the road,” said an eyewitness who asked not to be named.
He said they thought the truck lost control or had no brakes.
A 63-year-old man from Sweetwaters was inside his car waiting for his grandchild when the truck hit him. He was injured on his arm and rushed to Northdale Hospital with the other drivers. His two daughters were at the scene.
Parents were outside the school gate looking for their children who were kept inside following the accident.
