Chandigarh, November 22
A jump in Covid-19 cases in Haryana has been noticed as the preceding week, November 15-21, recorded 110 cases — highest in the last 13 weeks.
There were 108 cases in the week from November 8-14 but before that 74 cases were reported during November 1-7.
Before this, it was the week of August 16-22, which had recorded higher cases at 139.
In the district-wise analysis, it came out that Gurugram alone contributed 85 cases in the week ending on Sunday (November 15-21), which is 77.3 per cent of the total cases. Ten cases came from Panchkula (9.1 per cent of the total).
In the week, November 8-14, Gurugram contributed 74 cases out of a total of 108 in the state, which is 68.5 per cent.
Higher cases are being recorded in the district despite the fact that it has the highest rate of first dose of vaccination (124 per cent) and second dose (84 per cent) in the state.
Till November 21, Gurugram had administered 22.40 lakh first doses and 15.20 lakh second doses. Recently, two Covid patients died in Gurugram, who were administered with both the doses but had comorbidities too.
On Gurugram’s riddle, Chief Medical Officer Dr Virender Yadav said, “Definitely, we are getting breakthrough infections in the district. At the same time, we have not compromised on testing and tracing.”
“There is only a marginal rise in the Covid cases. Earlier, we were getting eight to nine cases per day, now we are getting 12 cases per day. Earlier, we were testing 3,000 samples per day. Now, we are testing 3,500 samples,” said Dr Yadav.
“We need to be careful. Gurugram has a high migrant population. The seropositivity rate in the district was 78.3 per cent. It is not 100 per cent. So, there is a pool which can be infected. We need to study positive cases — from where they are coming from and what is their history,” said Dr Dhruv Chaudhary, state nodal officer for Covid and Senior Professor and Head, Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, PGIMS Rohtak.
When contacted Director General Health Services Dr Veena Singh said, “There is only marginal jump in cases in the state. But if we compare with other states, the situation in Haryana is under control. The testing, tracing and treatment is one of the best in our state.”
