Pune recorded 243 new Covid-19 infections along with seven deaths on Tuesday. As per the officials out of 64,77,379 recovered patients across Maharashtra, the highest number of recoveries were from Pune district.
The manager of a cooperative credit society was killed as two robbers opened fire in Junnar taluka of Pune on Wednesday afternoon. The robbers have escaped with cash amounting to around Rs 2 lakh, officials said.

The Maharashtra state education board has recommended to the state government that the upcoming board exams in February-March be held in the regular offline mode given that now schools are reopened with encouraging attendance figures.
In a proposal sent last week, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has recommended that the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC – class 12) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC – class 10) exams be held offline. Read more
Sterilisation of stray dogs carried out during a three-month lockdown period has come under the scanner in Pimpri-Chinchwad. NCP, the main Opposition party in PCMC, alleged the veterinary department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), backed by the ruling BJP, has indulged in corruption by jacking up the number of strays sterilised and thereby making money out of the fake numbers. However, the allegation was denied by the civic body.
Former mayor Yogesh Behl, who is a corporator of PCMC, had first alleged in the civic general body meeting last week that instead of between 1,300 and 1,500 sterilisations as per the laid down rules, the PCMC veterinary department has come up with a figure of 7,125 sterilisations. Notably, in 2018, organisers of a programme held to mark the bicentenary of the battle were booked under stringent laws after violence broke out during the event.
“The Kranti Stambh at Bhima-Koregaon is a symbol of bravery. Thus, the civic standing committee has approved Rs 1 crore for beautification and development of the area around it,” said Hemant Rasane, the chairperson of the standing committee. Read more
Three men posing as cops allegedly cheated an elderly woman in Talegaon Dabhade and made away with her gold ornaments worth Rs 1.6 lakh on Tuesday.
The three men approached the woman near Sheetal Sweet Home on the Talegaon-Chakan road around 1.30 pm, said the police based on a complaint lodged by her on Tuesday evening. Read more

Doctors at KEM hospital have suggested a modified technique of temporary aortic clamping which can significantly reduce blood loss and further complications. The placenta normally detaches itself from the uterus after delivery of the baby.
However, due to previous surgeries on the uterus for instance a Caesarian- section, the placenta becomes pathologically stuck to the uterus and in some cases invades outside the uterus (Placenta Percreta).
Dr. Vivek Joshi Director & Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department, KEM Hospital, Pune says that in such cases the uterus has to be removed. A Cesarean hysterectomy refers to removal of the uterus at the time of caesarean delivery and is a technically challenging procedure especially due to massive bleeding which may occur during surgery. Temporary Aortic Clamping which is an effective technique used during this procedure refers to clamping of the Aorta which is the main artery coming from the heart and supplying blood all the way down. Collector offices across the state are receiving several queries daily about the procedure for receiving the Rs 50,000 ex-gratia for Covid-19 deceased patients. Most of them are from families who do not have Covid test reports and death certificates that mention ‘Covid-19′ as the ’cause of death’.

But the numbers that matter for him are the kilometres he has covered during his runs — jaw-dropping distances like 111 km, 222 km and 555 km — among other ultra-marathon efforts. The triple five was achieved in the rarefied heights of Ladakh two years ago.

As many as 855 sanctioned posts are lying vacant at the Health Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Of these, 126 are key posts including that of radiologists (15), gynaecologists (8), general surgeons (8), ICU physicians (4), ENT specialists (4), paediatric surgeons (4), dentists (6), pathologists (7), physiotherapists (9) and others.
According to data with the department, there are 1,678 sanctioned posts in Class-I to Class-IV in the department. Of these, 823 have been filled, while the remaining will be advertised. At present, only 34 of the 160 sanctioned Class-I posts have been filled. The posts of city TB officer, AIDS nodal officer, neonatologist and cardiologist remain vacant.
Top officials, however, pointed out that the process is ongoing and the posts will be filled soon. “The recruitment process is underway and we are getting a response,” Dr Anjali Sabne, Assistant Medical Officer of Health told The Indian Express. Read more
A 30-year-old man, who was in judicial custody for allegedly beating his wife to death, fled from Sassoon General Hospital here around Tuesday noon. He, however, was caught again within two hours of his escape, Pune city police said. The man was admitted at the hospital for treatment a few days ago.
The accused, Kishor Shirsath, was arrested in the third week of September this year on charges of murdering his wife.
Officials from Bundgarden police station, under whose jurisdiction the Sassoon General Hospital falls, said that Shirsath was brought to the hospital on November 15 and admitted at the ward for prisoners. Notably, the ward remains under police watch round the clock. Read more
Indian Army’s Pune-based Southern Command on Monday concluded a four-day (from November 19 to 22) multi-agency exercise ‘Sagar Shakti’ involving army, navy, air force, coast guard, Border Security Force and Gujarat state security in Kutchs’s Creek sector.
The exercise was part of ‘Dakshin Shakti’, being held in the training areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat with a focus on network-centric warfare, which denotes effective use of information technology and computer networking tools to form networks of various force elements in play on the battlefield. This exercise aims to validate the battle readiness and operational effectiveness of troops of the Southern Army in an integrated and futuristic battlefield scenario.
Months ahead of the civic polls, all party corporators in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) unanimously approved a proposal allowing each of them to distribute hand bags, buckets and benches worth Rs 10 lakh from civic funds. The decision is likely to cost the civic body Rs 16 crore, considering there are 164 corporators.
The five-year term of the current general body will end in three months, on February 15 next year. The civic administration had banned the purchase of hand bags, buckets and benches using civic funds due to the pandemic-induced financial crunch. There was stiff opposition to this decision and corporators from all parties had sought to lift the ban.
The 1971 war between India and Pakistan was a significant moment in world history, resulting as it did in the creation of a new country, Bangladesh. While the war was fought between December 3 and 16, there were several key preliminary military operations that were conducted in the run-up to it and are considered instrumental in giving the Indian Armed Forces a decisive edge over Pakistan.
One of these was the Battle of Boyra of November 22, 1971, fought in Boyra Salient, an area which protrudes into India from the North Western region of the erstwhile East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.

Maharashtra on Monday reported eight fresh fatalities and 656 new COVID-19 cases, lowest one-day figures since April 2020.Among the eight administrative regions of Maharashtra (each consisting of a new set of districts), the Mumbai region reported the highest 307 new COVID-19 cases, followed by 161 in Pune and 121 in the Nashik region.
Notably, only Mumbai and Pune regions reported fresh deaths (four each).
Generally cloudy skies will prevail over Pune city on Tuesday. Higher levels of humidity was recorded on the day and the minimum temperatures at some places were Pashan - 19.2 degrees, Shivajinagar - 20.2 degrees and Lavale - 21 degrees.
The city's air quality will be 'good' with the AQI value likely to be 38 on the day.
