Trinamool moves SC on Tripura violence

New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) The Trinamool Congress on Monday filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court alleging continuation of violence against its party workers and also registration of many alleged false cases against them by the ruling BJP government.

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said it will likely hear the matter on Thursday.

"We will see it and hear it on November 25," the bench said after the matter was mentioned before it.

The court had earlier ordered the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura and state home secretary to take effective and necessary steps to ensure that there is no violence in the upcoming municipal elections in the state.

Trinamool MP Derek O'Brien on Monday sought an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to apprise the latter of an alleged attack by the BJP workers on TMC workers and leaders besides arrest of its youth wing chief Saayoni Ghosh in Tripura ahead of the November 25 civic body polls.
