GREATER NOIDA: The Rashtriya Yuva Gurjar Swabhiman Samiti said it would show black flags to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath during the foundation laying event of Jewar airport on November 25 if none of them apologises for the alleged “disrespect” meted out to the community.
The outfit is spearheading the protest on the alleged issue of the removal of the title "Gurjar" from a plaque under the statue of the erstwhile 9th-century ruler Samrat Mihir Bhoj unveiled by the UP CM at a Dadri college.
The Rashtriya Yuva Gurjar Swabhiman Samiti is a separate wing of the Rashtriya Gurjar Swabhiman Samiti formed following a mahapanchayat on September 26.
A controversy was witnessed on the issue after the meeting.
Led by Gurjar leaders from across party lines, including the BJP, over 500 members of the community had held the mahapanchayat to protest against the "removal" of the word "Gurjar" before the name of Samrat Mihir Bhoj whose statue was unveiled by the chief minister.
The members of the Gurjar community are upset with the fact that the word “Gurjar had been missing from the name of the 9th-century ruler Samrat Mihir Bhoj.
Since the mahapanchayat was held, the outfit has been holding meetings across Greater Noida and galvanising support for the issue.
On Saturday, a meeting of the Rashtriya Yuva Gurjar Swabhiman Samiti- an informal collection of young Gurjar leaders of the Rashtriya Gurjar Swabhiman Samiti was held in Roja Jalalpur village at the residence of Ravindra Bhati, who is the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Parishad and is associated with the Azad Samaj Party.
Bhati told TOI that despite protests by the Gurjar community, neither the Prime Minister nor the UP CM has issued any statements on the issue.
“The name on the plaque was changed by the BJP leaders after the protests by the Gujjar community but neither the PM nor the CM said a word on the same. We demand that the upcoming Jewar airport be named after Samrat Mihir Bhoj and the UP CM apologises for the disrespect meted out to the Gurjar community,” he said.
Bhati said on September 22 event in which the CM presided over, mischief was done with the plaque under the statue of Samrat Mihir Bhoj.
The Gurjar community members present at the meeting said they were ready to face any obstacles in their way in order to get their demands met.
