The Lamar University men’s basketball team couldn’t hold its halftime lead on Sunday, falling to Southern Miss, 82-75 on the road in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

After leading 36-33 at the break, Lamar was outscored by 10 points in the second half. Southern Miss found its shooting stroke in the final 20 minutes, going 16-of-24 from the field after halftime.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals went cold in the second half, only making three of their first 14 attempts coming out of the locker room.

Trae Hardy scored a game-high 23 points to pace Southern Miss, helping the Golden Eagles hand Lamar its fourth straight loss.

C.J. Roberts scored 16 points to lead three Lamar guards who scored in double figures. Davion Buster added 14 points while Ellis Jefferson scored 10.

Lamar (1-4) will be back on the road Wednesday for an afternoon game at UTSA.
