On January 16, 2022, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will hold Stage 1 of the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for the year 2021-22 for students in Class 10 in Ludhiana.
Students from the SC, OBC, and handicapped categories can only give the exam if they passed their Class 9 exams with at least a 55 per cent. Only those students, who passed their Class 9 exams with at least 70% are eligible for the general category.

The students who are affiliated from government schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas or any other affiliated board can appear for the exam.
Sanjeev Taneja, Ludhiana district mentor said that registrations are going on. Over 3,000 students from Ludhiana actively participated in the NTSE Stage 1 last year. Potential candidates have been identified by each school, and special classes have been arranged for them.
In addition, each school has a nodal officer who is in charge of NTSE preparation. The officer in question will supply study materials, which will include online modules in science, SST, Maths, and mental abilities.
Students who pass Stage 1 will be able to take the Stage 2 exam, which will be administered by the National Council for Educational Research and Training at the national level (NCERT).
Sanjeev Taneja, Ludhiana district mentor further added that, for participation in the second stage, each state has a set ratio. The top 187 students from Punjab will proceed to Stage 2.
NCERT will distribute scholarships to the top 2,000 students who pass the NTSE exam. They will receive 1,250 per month for Class 11 and 12, and 2,000 per month from NCERT while seeking graduation and post degree.
According to the central government’s policy, 15% of scholarships are reserved for SC students, 7.5 percent for ST students, 27 percent for OBC students, 10% for poor and minority students, and 4% for physically challenged students. The NTSE enrollment period began on November 15 and will end on November 30. On December 1, students will be able to download their admit card.
What type of questions will be asked in Stage 1 of the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) ?
The questions in the Stage 1 exam will be objective type, comprising 200 multiple choice questions, including 100 questions about mental capacity. According to officials, no precise syllabus has been established for the exam, although the majority of the questions will be drawn from Class 9 and 10 NCERT text books. In addition, there will be no negative marking.
Davinder Singh Chhina, media officer of the local education department said that students in special Whatsapp groups, developed for NTSE, receive science, mathematics, and mental aptitude test (MAT) modules and videos from block mentors or nodal in-charges.
Also, DEO secondary Lakhvir Singh Samra added that their objective is to prepare students from government schools to take any national-level admission exam in the future.
