The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmers' unions that has been leading the protest against the Centre's three farm laws, was scheduled to hold an important meeting at Singhu border on Sunday to decide what to do next. This comes after PM Modi announced on Friday that the Centre has decided to repeal the laws.

However, the meeting has now been postponed to 11 am on November 27, after news came in that the Union Cabinet is likely to approve the decision to repeal the laws on Wednesday.

The farmers have decided to wait before making any formal announcement on what their course of action will now be and whether they will be formally ending their protest.

On Saturday, SKM core committee member Darshan Pal had said that the farmers' groups have to discuss the MSP issue and the daily tractor march to Parliament during the Winter Session that they had planned at their meeting.

The farmers have been saying that although their demand for repeal of the three laws has been accepted, their other demand for guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) has not yet been implemented.

PROGRAMMES TO CONTINUE

Until their meeting on November 27, the farmers' programmes will now continue as per the original plan. The mahapanchayat to be held in Lucknow on November 22 has not been called off.

Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said, "Programmes that have been decided by SKM will stand as it is. Mahapanchayat on November 22, big gatherings at all borders on November 26 and Parliament tractor rally on November 29. However, a final call on the November 29 rally will be taken at the November 27 meet."

He added, "We will write an open letter to the prime minister on the remaining demands of the farmers." These include MSP guarantee, Electricity Bill 2020, withdrawal of cases against protesting farmers and sacking of minister Ajay Misra Teni, whose son was involved in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
