Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 56th DGsP/IGsP Conference at Lucknow on Sunday (Twitter/@narendramodi) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for constituting a High-Power Police Technology Mission, under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to adopt future technologies for grassroots policing requirements, according to a government release.
Addressing the 56th DGPs/IGPs conference at the Uttar Pradesh Police headquarters in Lucknow, PM Modi advocated for an analysis of all police related incidents and developing case studies to make it a learning mechanism across the force.
It was insightful to hear the inputs of police officers from various states on contemporary security challenges. This made the conference a participative one.

He attended the three-day conference on Saturday and Sunday, and sat through presentations during sessions on national security, sources aware of the matter said.
In his address, PM Modi cited the importance of technology in the lives of people and gave the examples of CoWIN, the backbone India’s Covid-19 vaccination drive, GeM (the government e-market platform) and UPI, the instant real-time payment system.
The PM also appreciated police attitude towards the public, particularly since the pandemic, and suggested positive use of drone technology for the benefit of the people, the release said.
The conference was attended by 62 director general of police (DGPs) and inspector general of police (IGPs) of states and Union territories, apart from director generals of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organisations (CPOs). More than 400 officers of various ranks attended the conference virtually from around the country.
The Prime Minister stressed on the review of SMART Policing concept, data driven law enforcement that was introduced in 2014, and urged for a roadmap for its transformation.
To tackle some of the routine challenges faced by the police, Modi said highly qualified youths should be involved to look for technological solutions through hackathons.
The conference was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on November 19. In his opening speech on Friday, the Minister said state police and central agencies must coordinate better, and focus on coastal and border security apart from cyber crime.
