New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday said the government decision to repeal the three Farm Laws is a victory of the 12-month-long Gandhian protest of farmers, and urged the government to focus on farmer welfare programmes.
In a statement issued here, the Congress President said, "The struggle and determination of 62 crore 'annadatas' of the country has won after 12 months of a Gandhian movement. The sacrifices of around 700 farmers and their families have succeeded. Truth, justice and non-violence have won.
"The anti-farmer-labourer conspiracy woven by the government has also been defeated. The attack on the livelihood of farmers was also defeated. Today, the three anti-farmer laws have been defeated and Annadata has won," she added.
The Congress president said as per NSO, the average income of the farmers has been reduced to Rs 27 per day, and the average debt on the farmer of the country is Rs 74,000.
"The government needs to think how to make agriculture profitable and how farmers can get MSP for their crop," she said.
"I hope the PM and the BJP govt will set aside their ego and pay attention to the farmers' welfare, MSP will be ensured and in future, consent of the state governments, farmer organisations and opposition parties would be taken before making decisions," she added.
The statement came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the three new Farm Laws would be repealed in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
