Talui village holds blessing ceremony for Sword Vashum

Ukhrul, November 18 2021: Talui Village Authority on Thursday organised a grand ceremony seeking divine blessings for INC intending candidate Sword Vashum to begin his election campaign for the upcoming Manipur Assembly Elections 2022 from 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency, Ukhrul.
A host of headmen, chairmen, youth and women leaders from different villages of Chingai and LM Block took part in the ceremony held at Pre-centenary Memorial hall of Talui Baptist Church located about 30 km from Ukhrul town.
Sword Vashum, retired IAAS, is currently seeking an INC party ticket for the upcoming State Assembly election.
Speaking on the occasion, Sword Vashum expressed his joy for the overwhelming response and massive gathering at the event.
While appreciating his ancestral village for holding the blessing ceremony in grand manner, Sword stated that he decided to contest in the ensuing election to create political consciousness among the tribal people especially about the Manipur Autonomous District Council (MADC).
Dwelling on functional autonomy of ADCs, he mentioned that the present ADCs have no financial, administrative and executive autonomy even though ADCs were instituted in all hill districts of the state.
"This is the ultimate reason that the ADCs have failed in hill districts.
It has to be corrected for good, based on the rights reserved under article 371(C) in order to safeguard the rights of tribal communities enshrined in the constitution", he asserted.
Sword Vashum further stated that the elected representative should be accountable to the people while urging the public to exercise their democratic right in a fair manner and choose the right person to represent them in the Government for a better and efficient governance.
Later, Rev N Mingyao Zimik, Pastor Talui Baptist Church invoked blessing on behalf of Talui Village at Talui Pre centenary Hall.
