Gurgaon: Residents of new sectors have raised concerns that the arrangements to tackle pollution by the authorities are “insufficient”. There is no respite from roadside dust due to the dilapidated condition of internal sector roads and burning of garbage and industrial waste is being witnessed at several places, they alleged.
“Heap of silt and dust are deposited along the roadside on almost every sector road. There is hardly any effort from the civic authorities to clean roads properly,” said Ranjit Singh, a resident of Sector 85.
While the Municipal corporation of Manesar (MCM) has deployed four mechanised sweeping vehicles for cleaning roads, some locals raised questions on its effectiveness as the stretches are ridden with potholes. “In sectors 81 to 95, the condition of roads is pathetic. Even the road medians are covered in dust,” said Vivek Prakash, a resident of Sector 86.
Open burning of garbage and industrial waste is also rampant. “The plot in front of the proposed Gurgaon university is the hotspot for waste burning. Scrap dealers are burning hazardous waste in the open,” said Rao Dharamveer Singh, a resident of Sector 82.
Meanwhile, MCM joint commissioner Alka Chaudhary said, “We are undertaking all efforts to curb pollution. Water sprinkling has been going on round the clock, along with mechanised sweeping of roads. We have been attending to roadside dust regularly and are issuing challans against those found violating norms.”
