PATNA/MADHUBANI: Two police sub-inspectors — Gopal Krishna and Abhimanyu Sharma — allegedly physically assaulted additional district judge-I Avinash Kumar inside his chamber in a subdivisional court in Madhubani at around 2pm on Thursday, and even pointed their service weapons at him.
Lawyers and judicial staff rescued the ADJ and held the two policemen hostage. The ADJ had ordered special training for the Madhubani SP and SDPO earlier this year for their “poor knowledge”. That order came while denying bail in a case that he had termed a rape case but the police had not filed a chargesheet invoking the Pocso Act.
At the time of filing this report, the SIs were still confined in a room inside the court premises. Senior authorities, including IGP Ajitabh Kumar, were at the spot trying to pacify the lawyers. Patna HC Chief Justice Sanjay Karol took suo moto cognisance of the incident and formed a special division bench to hear the matter.
