Hyderabad: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing that the center is repealing the three controversial farm laws, the ruling TRS in Telangana described it as a major victory for farmers of the country. The party welcomed the Modi government’s decision and was pleased that TRS had played its part in the recent protests in which Prime Minister and TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao himself participated in supporting farmers in Telangana.
Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said Prime Minister Modi had finally understood the ground level situation in the country and had apologized to the farmers as well as the people of the country for bringing out the controversial laws. “The decision was pending for a long time. “Farmers’ agitation could have been avoided if they had repealed the laws earlier,” he said. In addition to congratulating the farmers who continued their struggle despite extreme weather conditions and other struggles, he paid tribute to farmers who sacrificed their lives in the turmoil.
The minister said in a democracy, the rulers could not take anything for granted and the people’s decision was the ultimate verdict. He was full of hope that the Union Government would take into account the Maha Dharna and farmers protest organized by TRS in Telangana and deliver a decision on the acquisition of rice field which is favorable to farmers in the state. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aware of our prime minister’s fighting spirit. We are hopeful that the Center will take a decision on the acquisition of paddy before the farmers’ agitation in Telangana intensifies, ”he added.
TRS’s acting president and minister, KT Rama Rao, tweeted a quote saying “the power of people is always greater than the people in power” and said it was once again proven by Indian farmers who got what they demanded has by their relentless agitation. He raised the slogan of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ while congratulating the farmers who protested against the farm laws.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao also praised the relentless struggle by the farmers on the borders of Delhi, despite all the problems for more than 15 months. He stated that the farmers fought against the bullets, lathes, water cannons, wire fences and also the Union government to achieve this victory. “It’s a testament to the fact that people can achieve what they desire, with perseverance and hard work,” he added. Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and other ministers also welcomed the center’s decision. However, they stated that TRS would continue its struggle until the Union government agreed to obtain paddy from the state.
