Chandigarh, Nov 19 (UNI) All prominent Haryana leaders, including Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala, on Friday welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement to repeal the three farm laws.
In a tweet, Khattar said he welcomes "the announcement and appeal made by the honourable Prime Minister on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Dev's Parkash Purb and Dev Deepawali. The BJP is always dedicated to agriculture and interests of farmers and will do work for their betterment in future also."
Former chief minister and LoP Bhupinder Singh Hooda termed the Central government's announcement to repeal farm laws as a victory of farmers. In a statement, he said the farmers have earned this victory with their long and peaceful agitation. He urged the government to also consider other issues of the ryots and come up with plans to make agriculture profitable.
The LoP reiterated the demand of withdrawal of cases against farmers during their anti-farm laws agitation. He also urged the government to provide financial help to the families of those, who have lost their lives during the stir. He said that Haryana government should help these families by providing them government jobs and financial help on the lines of Punjab government.
Haryana Deputy Chief Minister and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala, while welcoming the PM's announcement, appealed to farmer groups to end their agitation. He said the Prime Minister's announcement is a commendable decision for restoring social peace and brotherhood.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repealing the farm laws on the auspicious occasion of Gurpurab, Haryana BJP President O P Dhankar urged the farmers to end protest as their purpose had been achieved. “The reform process for the welfare of the farming community will continue in consultations with the farm unions,” he said.
Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij also asked farmers unions to end their agitation as the Prime Minister announced to repeal the three contentious farm laws during the upcoming winter session of Parliament that starts on November 29.
In a tweet in Hindi, Vij said, "All farmer unions and groups should thank PM for announcing to repeal farm laws on the occasion of Guru Nanak Prakash Utsav and end their agitation and return to their homes.
While reacting to the PM's announcement, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader and Elannabad MLA Abhay Chautala demanded that the Central government should make Minimum Support Price (MSP) law.
In a series of tweets, Chautala said he welcomes the move but would like to demand that MSP guarantee law should be made at the earliest. He saluted the victory of struggle of farmers and labourers and paid tributes to farmers who died during the year-long agitation.
He said that the farmers who died during the stir should be given the status of a martyr and their families should get financial help from the government. He also demanded that all the cases filed against the agitating farmers during last one year should be withdrwan.
Chautala had resigned from his assembly seat in support of farmers agitation and was re-elected in by-election held on October 30.
The three farm laws were passed by Parliament last year, triggering strong protests from farmers, specially from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh. The farmers claimed that the laws had been brought to slowly and gradually scrap the system of minimum support price (MSP). They also argued that the three laws would corporatise the agriculture sector and small farmers would eventually become a sharecropper.
The farmers agitation over farm laws had a serious impact on Haryana as majority of farmers from the state joined the stir at the Delhi borders. Farmers have been boycotting programmes of ruling BJP and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leaders and there were several incidents of confrontation between the peasants and police and administration.
