Andrew Cuomo's lawyer has called on New York Attorney General Letitia James to recuse herself from any decisions in his sexual harassment case, citing her run for governor as a conflict of interest.
Rita Galvin on Thursday said AG James should not be a part of any decisions involving the sexual harassment case against the disgraced former New York governor following her announcement that she is running for his old job in 2022.
'Her office must recuse as she is campaigning for governor,' Galvin said. 'Her judgment in those months was absolutely compromised by her political motivations.'

An August report concluded that Cuomo (pictured) sexually harassed 11 women

In August James, 63, issued a damning 168-page report detailing Cuomo's abusive behavior with the 11 women who made sexual assault allegations against the former governor.
In October, a day after the Albany County Sheriff's Office charged Cuomo with a misdemeanor sex offense, James announced that she would challenge fellow Democrat Kathy Hochul, the former lieutenant governor, who replaced Cuomo when he stepped down on Aug. 24 after more than 10 years in office.
This is not the first time Cuomo's attorney has called into question James' involvement in his sexual harassment investigation.
In October, prior to the announcement she would run for governor, Cuomo demanded that James amend the sexual harassment report she published in August.
Cuomo's attorney claimed that James broke the terms of her agreement with Cuomo and got 'personally involved' in what they agreed would be an independent investigation and that she made the report a 'political conflict' by refusing to say if she would run for governor in 2022 after knowing Cuomo would go for a fourth term.
In a news conference livestreamed on Cuomo's campaign website, Galvin said the report 'extraordinarily prejudiced the governor, ousted him from office, overturned an election and disenfranchised the votes of 3.6 million New Yorkers' and that 'it has to be corrected.'

The AG, who agreed to select the law firm to conduct the investigation and simply receive weekly reports, revealed that unidentified victims 'gave me concrete examples' of their interactions with Cuomo.
'These young women... marched in gave me the facts, gave me the evidence. And everyone in Albany, every politician that I knew said: "Yeah, it was like that Tish,"' the AG said, evidently breaking the terms of her March 1 agreement with the former governor.
Glavin said James’ remarks made it 'clear that she did not hand the reins of the investigation totally over an independent law firm' and slammed the AG for publishing the bombshell report as a political ploy to help her campaign for governor in 2022, which was not immediately clear when the investigation was opened earlier this year.
But James has dismissed the charge that her investigation was politically motivated, and has said that Cuomo should take responsibility for his own conduct.
In James's 168-page shock report, she claimed that the embattled then-governor was a sex pest behind a concerted campaign of unwanted comments and touching that spanned from 2013 to 2020.
It concluded that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women while serving as governor.
Cuomo - who denies touching anyone inappropriately or intending to make suggestive comments - accused the women of exaggerating or misinterpreting his behavior.
Despite his dramatic fall from grace the ousted governor may not be done with New York politics for good. It had been reported that he was considering running for James' attorney general post.
'People in Cuomo’s orbit are tossing it out there,' a person close to Cuomo told the New York Post. 'They’re floating [the idea].'
Cuomo himself told New York Magazine that he didn't 'know what the future holds,' in their latest edition and said: 'I'm at peace. Look, it's simple: I trust the people and the truth will [win] out.'
Cuomo told the magazine he's enjoying his 'vacation.'
'I never took summer vacation. I didn't do that. I never took vacations, period,' he said. 'So, I'm enjoying time with family and friends. That's all I'm doing.'
