The online workshop had all stakeholders from other states of NER and based outside Guwahati while the stakeholders from Guwahati met for an in-person meeting on the 22nd of October.
The report was prepared by Ms. Anasuya Mahanta, Project Head - IIE and Mr. Sagar Kumar, Project Lead - IIE from the Incubation Cell supported by Mr. Dibya Jyoti Kalita, Project Executive – IIE for data analysis and Ms. Namrata Das, Project Executive – IIE for designing under the guidance of Dr. Sriparna B Baruah.
Key stakeholders from all the states of NER like Assam Start-up NEST, incubation centres, different academic institutes across the region, entrepreneurs and start-ups were present on both the days. The report looks into the start-up ecosystem in NER and identified needs and challenges that needs to be addressed. During the workshop, IIE shared the key finding of the report and suggested a way ahead.
The key findings showed that the major concerns of the ecosystem are mentoring and access to funds. The report offers a suggestive roadmap as a way forward to mitigate some of the challenges discussed in the findings from the study.
Suggestions like building strong mentoring and networking support, opportunities for exposure and orientation of start-ups and creating local funding networks like local angels, seed grant/fund etc were shared by IIE during the workshop. All members discussed for a collaborative approach between all the stakeholders to make the ecosystem more inclusive and vibrant in NER. This report incorporating all the points can be a point of reference for all stakeholders going forward to build a robust ecosystem.
