Panaji/Mapusa : Some unidentified undertrial inmates of the central jail at Colvale allegedly dug a hole in the wall of a cell, where the rape accused Ramchandran Yellappa was also kept.

However, a jail official has denied occurrence of  such an incident.

Sources said the undertrial prisoners from that particular cell were shifted to another cell of the prison.

It is learnt that the hole in the wall was noticed by jail staff during an inspection.

It is not clear as to who was involved in digging the hole, and since when planning for a probable escape had been going on.

It has been claimed that one of the inmates in the particular cell was Yellappa, who was arrested for raping a  British woman in 2018.

In September last year, Yellappa had escaped from the jail. He, however, was nabbed by the Goa police in Bengaluru in April this year.

He had also escaped through a toilet vent when brought to the court for hearing in 2019.

However, the rape accused was nabbed within a month in Bengaluru.
