Chennai city police has deployed armed police personnel to provide round-the-clock security to actor Suriya's residence
CHENNAI: Chennai city police has deployed armed police personnel to provide round-the-clock security to actor Suriya's residence, besides providing personal security officers (PSOs) for him following threats to the actor, whose film 'Jai Bhim' has come under a cloud of controversy. Four armed reserve constables are guarding the actor's house in T Nagar round-the-clock under the supervision of an officer. Two PSOs will accompany the star whenever he steps out.
Police protection has been made available following a petition seeking action against those threatening Suriya and his family members, after a PMK youth wing leader announced cash award for anyone attacking the actor. An officer said security has been provided as per the instructions of senior police officials and it would continue until further orders. Besides jointly producing the film, Suriya had played the lead role in the film, which revolved around police atrocities on oppressed classes. It was released on OTT platform and has received tremendous response. PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss first stoked the controversy when he wrote a letter to the actor for showing the Vanniyars in poor light.
Meanwhile, PMK's Mayiladuthurai district secretary 'Sithamalli' A Palanisamy has been booked on charge of criminally intimidating actor Suriya. tnn
