Huawei has projected that 5G network will increase to 16% penetration rate next year in Thailand, according to Bangkok Post. The China-based tech company plans to train 100,000 digital workers by 2023 in 5G, cloud, AI, big data, and blockchain and plans to invest US$50 million to cultivate 500,000 digital talent in the Asia-Pacific.
According to a Korn Ferry research, the Asia-Pacific will see a shortage of 47 million workers by 2030, which will create great opportunity costs of US$4.24 trillion every year in the region. The government and the private sectors should work together to train more tech talents.
A survey by the Office of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (ONDE) of Thailand showed a substantial increase in the percentage of workers in the e-commerce industry and of companies subscribing to cloud services from 2020 to 2021.
Thailand has more widely adopted 5G network than other AESEAN countries with 4.2 million users and solid government support. Huawei expects to see 5G penetration rate to reach 16% in Thailand and early adoption of 5G could drive innovation.
Huawei Thailand CEO Abel Deng said 5G is popularizing at a speed two times faster than 4G and he expects to see digital economy account for 30% of Thailand's GDP by 2030.
Deng said Huawei is providing cloud services to 700 companies in Thailand. The pandemic has accelerated digital transformation by 5-7 years.
