LUCKNOW: The state capital continues to choke with air pollution as air quality levels remained in ‘poor’ category.
For the past17 days, the city has seen high air pollution levels. According to data released by
Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index (
AQI) of the city on Wednesday was 237.
Track the pollution level in your city“Air in the city is continuously poor. In the coming days, even a slight fall in temperature will push air quality to very poor or severe category,” said environmentalist
Venkatesh Dutta.
He said a lesson should be learnt from the national capital, which is struggling with high air pollution levels and is adopting pollution control measures. All possible methods like check and ban on garbage burning, emissions from factories and traffic snarls should be controlled. Heavy plantation on dividers, on the roadside and on vacant spaces should be done with immediate effect, he added.
Other cities in
Uttar Pradesh also struggled with high air pollution.
Air quality better than last year: LMCLucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Wednesday claimed that owing to the anti-air pollution measures taken by it, the city’s air quality between October 12 and November 12 this year was better in comparison to the corresponding period last year. Municipal commissioner Ajay Dwivedi said a study of Air Quality Index (AQI) of the period between October 12 to November 12 in 2020 and 2021 showed that this year AQI has been low as compared to last year. The AQI this year has remained between moderate or poor, whereas last year it was mostly in the poor or very poor category. This, he said, is because the LMC has deputed anti-smog and tractor-mounted sprinklers and mechanical sweeping machines to clean air and sweep the dust on the roads. Besides, people were made aware through public address systems.. He said the anti-pollution drive will continue in the city.
