Is it alright to showcase your interests even when you know you are being judged on social media?

Everyone is on social media these days. It is beyond doubt that social media is a platform of never-ending priceless opportunities. It all boils down to how we use what’s on our plate and deal with the consequences when something goes wrong.

I have been using Instagram and other social media platforms for four years now. I tend to put myself out there more often than ever, especially on Instagram, which I am the most familiar with. If you have known me even for a while now, you must have noticed that I post reels regularly.

Innumerable artists and their jaw-dropping knack for entertaining people have been discovered during this lockdown through social media.

I love posting reels as I feel it is a visual mode of expressing our feelings in whatever way we want. Moreover, that limited time frame is ideal for the fast-moving and limited attention span that the current generation of humans have. This is where talent gets its chance to prove itself by telling a story efficiently in such a short time frame.

The judgmental vision of humankind always has something to paint the souls of those who have a different point of view or expression. Think about it. Isn’t making the opposite person feel guilty is what we are trying to achieve by being judgmental?

“Kya tik-tok bana rahi\raha hai, kya berozari hai,” and many more endless fault finding opinions.

We have heard a thousand times that ‘Everyone is entitled to their opinion.’ I completely agree with them not siding or encouraging my interest in expressing myself through reels. However, have you realised that you have an opinion that it’s not okay to post reels? Similarly, even I have an idea and a choice of my own: to post reels and express anytime and however many times I want to?

Innumerable artists and their jaw-dropping knack for entertaining people have been discovered during this lockdown. I don’t think there’s anything wrong if the person willfully showcases their talent by posting content whenever they want on social media. Some people appreciate the skill, which is the driving force behind doing more good work in the future.

Social media presents a visual mode of expressing our feelings in whatever way we want.

By doing so, both the artist and audience benefit symbiotically. If the situation is such, then there is no point in being an uninvited and unwanted judge at a place where you don’t belong. However, like the two sides of a coin, I am aware of the other ugly side of this platform. I have witnessed some degrading and shameful material being posted online in the name of entertainment.

I am also against such content, but I cannot take the high ground and start judging such artists just because my taste doesn’t match theirs. Like I need space for my creativity to breathe, so do they. I have come to peace with this point. So judgments and comments on someone regarding their looks or any aspect are immaterial. It is up to you to decide if they are deserving of our judgment or applause for their efforts or to neglect those content creators whose work doesn’t match your taste and move on.

Next time before striking those sleazy looks of judgment or passing condescending comments, why don’t we think twice if it is even worth it?

Have a nice day!
