I am 30 years old. I would like to start investing Rs 10,000 in mutual funds for the next 15-20 years. Please guide me which mutual funds/fund I can choose, for the maximum maturity amount?

-Sidhartha Sen

If you are investing for 15-20 years, you can choose equity mutual funds. However, you have to remember a few things. One, the market is at an all-time high. Also, many experts believe there could be a correction due to rich valuations and imminent rate hikes. This is not to scare you away but tell you that you should be aware of the risk you are taking while investing in stocks or equity mutual funds. Next, don’t focus only on returns while choosing mutual funds. You should always choose mutual funds based on your goals and risk profile. For example, if you are a long-term conservative investor, you always choose a large cap mutual fund. A moderate investor can choose to invest in a flexi cap fund. Aggressive investors can invest in mid cap funds. As said earlier, tread cautiously. Do not panic when the market goes through a bad phase. Focus on your long-term goal and continue with your investments.
