Jurors deciding the fate of Kyle Rittenhouse will return Wednesday for a second day of deliberations in his murder trial on charges that he fatally shot two men and injured a third during riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The jury consisting of seven women and five men deliberated for roughly eight hours without reaching a verdict Tuesday.
Several appeared worn out when they returned to the courtroom from a full day of deliberations and indicated with a show of hands that they wanted to go home.
“I understand that you wish to break for the evening,” Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder said. “You are in charge at this particular point.”
The jurors sent two notes to the judge on Tuesday, asking first for extra copies of the front six pages of the judge’s 36-page jury instructions, then for the rest of the pages.
Rittenhouse, 18, is charged with killing Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz, 28, on Aug. 25, 2020.
The deliberations kicked off this week despite the defense team filing a formal motion for a mistrial in which they accused prosecutors of withholding key evidence.
