A former Shiv Sena corporator has been booked for assaulting Rajesh Sawant of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.
KALYAN: A former Shiv Sena corporator has been booked for assaulting assistant municipal commissioner Rajesh Sawant of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) for taking action against the alleged illegal construction of a temple in Mohane area in Kalyan.
The video of the assault by Mukund Kot has gone viral on social media in which he is seen slapping Sawant for taking action against the temple. Following the incident, local Khadakpada police have registered an FIR against Kot under section 353 (assault on public servant) of IPC.
The police sources said that there was an old temple of Gaon Devi in Mohane area in Kalyan and since the temple was in dilapidated condition locals demolished the temple to construct the new temple at the same spot.
The locals recently had started the foundation work of the temple.
However, someone from the area complained to KDMC’s Archana Dive, deputy municipal commissioner saying some people doing illegal construction on the spot.
Acting on the complaint, Dive instruct Pawar to take action against illegal construction accordingly on Wednesday Sawant along with his team with the help of JCB demolished the foundation of the temple and return back to his ward office.
However after news spread about demolition, many locals with Kot reached to the Ward office in Titwala where Kot got angry on Sawant and attacked him by slapping him claiming that in the city many illegal constructions going on but the ward officer did not take action against such illegal construction however they targeted temple work which was already there for many years. Khadakpada police said they are investigating the matter further.
