Ranchi: Several police teams from different states and central agencies have arrived in Jharkhand to interrogate CPI (
Maoist) politburo member
Prashant Bose alias Kisan Da, his wife,
Sheela Marandi, and four other aides who were arrested last week, state DGP Neeraj Sinha said on Tuesday.
Refusing to divulge more information citing ongoing investigations, Sinha said it is a challenge to extract details from the top Maoist leader.
Talking to TOI on the interrogations so far, the DGP said, “Currently, a police team is interrogating Bose. He is a strong-willed Maoist ideologue. It is a big challenge to get information from him. We have also formed a big team to study and analyse the materials found in the SSD cards and there is an ocean of information. Police from other states and central agencies, too, have started coming in for questioning.”
Meanwhile, authorities of the Seraikela jail, where the top Maoist and his aides are currently lodged, have urged senior authorities to shift them to a bigger jail citing security reasons.
IG (prisons) Manoj Kumar said a decision on his shifting to a high-security jail would be taken soon on the recommendation of the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police concerned.
It may be noted that Bose and his aides were nabbed by Jharkhand police from Kandra in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on November 12. On Monday, they were taken into seven-day remand for questioning by Seraikela police after getting permission from the local court, which agreed to 150 hours remand for questioning.
Currently, Bose is being questioned about Maoist violence in the past and the rebels’ plans in Jharkhand and other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, police teams and experts from Bihar, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh and central agencies are in the state to question Bose. Jharkhand police have also formed a team, including experts from operation and intelligence wings, to question the Maoist leader.
The state police are on high alert following the Maoist call for protest from November 15 to 19 and Bharat bandh on November 20 in protest against the arrest of Bose. All field formations of the security forces have been directed to take measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the period.
The district police, CRPF and the Jharkhand Jaguar are already carrying out operations in sensitive areas. All police camps and the police stations have been alerted and instructions have been issued not to make unnecessary movements.
Inspector general (operations) Amol Homkar said, “We are geared up to prevent any untoward incident during the bandh. Moreover, operations are going on in sensitive areas. Security has been enhanced on the highways and railway tracks.”
