GUWAHATI: The Board of Secondary Education,
Assam (
Seba), has planned the Class X board exam schedule for March 2022 keeping in mind the possible outbreak of the third Covid-19 wave.
Even as the
Covid situation has shown noticeable improvement in the state, which has led to the total reopening of educational institutions, Seba sources said the online form fill-up process for High School Leaving Certificate (
HSLC) and Assam High Madrassa (AHM) has been scheduled from November 25 to December 18 keeping in mind the March exam schedule. Both Seba and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) faced criticism from guardians this year for not conducting the Class X and XII board exams early this year before the second wave hit the country and the assembly elections were announced.
"No one knows when the third wave of Covid-19 will strike. Considering the rise in Covid cases from April in the last two years, we don't want to take a risk and delay the exam schedule citing loss of offline classes," a senior official of Seba told TOI on Tuesday.
In June this year, the Assam government had to cancel the Class X and XII state board exams for this year due to the second wave. But the state boards faced great difficulty in doing justice to the students, who did not have records of internal assessment results. This time Seba has made compilation of the internal assessment exam marks systematic. Seba launched last month a digital portal for schools to save marks of internal exams for an error-free formula based evaluation in case the board exams are cancelled due to Covid or any other circumstances.
"Candidates who did not appear in the half yearly examination of Class X in October this year, will not be eligible to sit in the HSLC/AHM Examination, 2022," stated the latest order issued by Seba secretary,
Suranjana Senapati.
While the Covid outbreak in 2020 had compelled Seba not to conduct this year's board exam early, the assembly polls were announced for March-April.
"Though students lost offline classes this year, too, the Class X board exam is likely to start from the first week of March next year," said a Seba official.
