Two persons have died in separate road mishaps in the district. In the first case, Hitesh Dhiman, resident of the Police Division 3 chowk here, died after his car rammed into an electricity pole on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway near Ladhowal on Monday night. Hitesh suffered serious injuries in the accident. He was taken to the hospital by passersby but doctors declared him brought dead. As per the eyewitnesses, Hitesh was driving on the service lane when suddenly stray cattle came on the road and he lost control over the car, which rammed into the pole. Hitesh had gone to Phillaur for some work and he was returning home when he met with the tragedy. The Ladhowal police initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. Another accident took place at Machhiwara Sahib in which a rashly driven car rammed into a motorcycle from behind. A man, Dhanna Ram, resident of Machhiwara, died on the spot, while his son, who was riding pillion, suffered serious injuries in the mishap. Investigation officer ASI Jarnail Singh said after the accident, the car driver fled from the spot, but he was identified as Pawandeep of Kotla Bet and a case was registered against him. The accused driver is yet to be arrested. TNS
