Maruti Suzuki(up 2.76 per cent), Tata Motors(up 2.37 per cent), Hero MotoCorp(up 1.26 per cent), Bharat Forge(up 0.87 per cent) and MRF(up 0.53 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Ashok Leyland(down 3.75 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries(down 1.17 per cent), Eicher Motors(down 0.76 per cent), TIINDIA(down 0.49 per cent) and Exide Industries(down 0.44 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was up 0.85 per cent at 11787.25 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 62.5 points at 18046.95, while the BSE Sensex was down 240.2 points at 60478.51.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 were trading in the green, while 28 were in the red.
Shares of Zomato Ltd., Vodafone Idea, Tata Motors, Tata Power and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Foods & Inns, Bigbloc Const, TV Today Network, PB Fintech Ltd. and Indo Thai Sec hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Supreme Infra, Nidan Laboratories And Healthcare Ltd., Vikas WSP, DFM Foods and Quadpro ITeS Ltd. hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
