Ludhiana, November 15

The police today claimed to have arrested yet another accused of posting an audio clip on social media showing disrespect to Guru Nanak Dev. The arrested person has been identified as Sanjeev Sharma, resident of Jalandhar city.

With this arrest, the number of accused persons arrested so far in the case has gone up to nine. Prime accused Anil Arora, however, is still evading arrest.

Giving the information, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Jagatpreet Singh said the accused was presented in a local court and his police custody was obtained for further interrogation. He said during preliminary interrogation, Sanjeev Sharma had admitted having helped another accused Vasu Syal (now in custody) to abscond.

“Sanjeev had given Rs 20,000 to Vasu and also arranged his stay at a safe place outside Punjab,” said the ADCP. He said several police teams are constantly conducting raids on the possible hideouts of prime accused Arora.

After the blasphemous audio clip had gone viral, the police had, on the complaint of some Sikh organisations, registered a case on October 20 under Sections 295-A, 153-A, 212 and 216 of the IPC and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act nominating Anil Arora and his accomplices.
