A 14-year-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert has turned up safe at home in New York, less than a day after police said he was in imminent danger having been snatched by a group of men in masks.

James S. Fernandez Reyes, 14, turned up at his family's home in Rochester on Tuesday.

It's unclear if he is harmed - police would not confirm his condition because of his age - but he is now safe.

The Rochester Police Department refused to say on Tuesday afternoon who had reported him missing or why it was claimed that he'd been taken by 'five black men in a gold SUV,' as the Amber Alert claimed.

No one has been arrested yet but a spokesman for the police department told DailyMail.com on Tuesday the case was 'definitely not closed' and that an update was expected in the coming days.

In a press release on Monday night, Rochester Police Department had said: 'The child was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious harm and/or death.'

Reyes, according to the Amber Alert, was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue pants and white Nike Air Force One sneakers.

He is 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. The boy's family is yet to comment on his disappearance.
