Puneeth Rajkumar to be bestowed with Karnataka Ratna Award: CM Bommai

Bengaluru, Nov 16 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday announced honouring late Sandalwood actor Puneeth Rajkumar with Karnataka Ratna award posthumously.
"State Government has decided to honour late Sri #PuneethRajukumar with Karnataka Ratna award posthumously. #KarnatakaRatna," he tweeted.
Puneeth, the son of matinee idol Rajkumar, passed away after suffering a massive heart attack on October 29. He was laid to rest, on November 1, next to his father and Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar's grave at Kanteerava Studio, with full state honours.
His mother Parvathamma is also laid to rest on the same premises.
Puneeth's mortal remains were kept for public view at Kanteerava Stadium and thousands of people and prominent celebrities including Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Sharath, Junior NTR and others paid their last respect to the departed actor.
Bommai, Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, besides RSS National Executive Board meeting held at Dharwad, also paid rich tributes to the untimely death of the actor.
Born on 17 March 1975, before he was offered hero's roles, he had acted in 13 films as a child artiste. He was bestowed with National Award in the category of Best Child Artiste for his role in Bettada Hoovu in 1985.
He also won best child artiste award for his acting in 'Chalisuva Modagalu' and 'Eradu Kanasu'.
Appu was his debut film as a full-fledged hero which was released in 2002. Since then, he had acted in 29 movies. His last movie was James and hosted 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' in Kannada version.
