Port Huron Area School District will have a district-wide Mental Health Day on Dec. 10, 2021.

All Port Huron Area School District schools and its central office will be closed Friday, Dec. 10, for a district-wide Mental Health Day.

In a letter to staff and families Tuesday, Port Huron Area School District Superintendent Theo Kerhoulas said the COVID-19 pandemic continues to stress students and staff in Michigan.

During recent visits to Port Huron school district buildings he heard directly from students and staff about the challenges they face like health risks and staff shortages, he said.

“I am proud of how resilient our students and staff are but also know they need relief,” he said.

Theo Kerhoulas took on the role of Port Huron Schools superintendent on July 1, 2021.

So at Monday’s Port Huron Area School District Board of Education meeting it was announced Dec. 10 will be a district-wide Mental Health Day.

“Please use this day to rest, get caught up, spend time with your families and practice some well deserved self-care,” Kerhoulas said.

Port Huron Area School District representatives were not immediately available for comment Tuesday afternoon.
